Dogs, Cats, and Slippery Snakes
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 9th, 2010
It starts with a low growl and a throaty chuff, chuff. Every time I open my back door, the infernal “Poopsie” tries to scare me back into the house. I’ve tried growling back. I’ve tried a stern, alpha dog “woof!” Threats are volleyed back at me over the fence in the form of frenzied, high-pitched barking, fit to wake the dead. I’ve even tried, “Shaddup, you stupid freakin’ mutt from Hell!” to no avail. (That last one earned me...Read More » Tags

Food Kids Love: Raggedy Ann & Andy Lunch
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 8th, 2010
My mom used to make these "Raggedy Ann and Andy" lunches for me every year on my birthday. They were a special treat. When my daughter, Katie, was born, I learned how to make them for her. My daughter loved them, too. My son...well, let's just say he thinks they're fun, but still thinks they're way too healthy, with all the fruits and veggies. by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 5th, 2010
"Mom, Joey's parents give him a dollar every time he takes out the trash." "Really? Why?" "I don't know. Can I have a dollar for taking out the trash?" "No." "Why?" "Because taking out the trash is something you do as a member of this family, something that benefits us all. It's not something I should have to bribe you or pay you to do. Are you going to give me a dollar every time I do your laundry?" "Oh." Busy parents sometimes take the "...Read More » Tags

Zucchini Bread: A Tastier Way to Eat Your Veggies
by Holly Jahangiri on Feb 4th, 2010
I am updating the posting date on this - not age-regressing my son! Dennis Edell and I were wondering if that would be an effective way of bringing older, lesser-known posts back to the forefront, and whether they would be picked up by the nightly RSS feed, or roundly ignored all over again. So I hand-picked this one, because it's a fantastic recipe, a great way to encourage kids to eat more veggies, and a fun video (you parents might want...Read More » Tags
